You may or may not have come across these lines by the fashion diva Coco Chanel, the woman who gave the world the LBB or the little black dress, and more — “It’s not the appearance, it’s the essence. It’s not the money, it’s the education. It’s not the clothes, it’s the class”.
Class, yeah! Class is in how you style yourself. Class is in how you play up your strengths. No fat-shaming, colour blaming, age-shaming, or whatever else that’s done to make people lose their sense of self-worth.
Style can be subjective but anything that spells class, declares and affirms just that. There ain’t no two ways about it.
Bright makeup, loud jewellery and other accessories, colours, clothes that wear you, heels that trip — be careful what you choose.
Subtlety brings dignity. Bright makeup yes, but must match up to the occasion, the dress, the way you have accessorised yourself. If you are wearing statement pieces, ensure it’s just one or two, a bold neckpiece, a big ring, or chunky earrings.
Too fat? Avoid show of skin or dresses that have the bulges gasping out. This is not fat-shaming, it is understanding why slits and gapes do nothing for your personality unless of course you have it in you to carry just about anything with aplomb.
Remember, no one is perfect. Respect yourself. Embrace the bad with the good. Make choices that enhance your personality.
And let me conclude with Coco Chanel again — “J’aime la vie! I feel that to live is a wonderful thing”.
