So, I have some lazy bums around me who want to look chic sans any effort, or rock a look with whatever’s there in the almirah (and that’s precious little, really cool I mean). If you are one of them and you have it all but just can’t put it all together, then here are some tips:
First, ensure you have some basics — a couple of short and long cool tops/kurtis, stoles in various crafts like ajrakh, phulkari, ikat and a couple of prints, the evergreen white, black, fuchsia shirt, tee and dress, a pair each of jootis, sneakers, kolhapuris, strappy sandals, high heels (if you can pirouette fine in ‘em), a pair of blue jeans, a couple of wraparounds, peasant and denim skirts, handmade potlis, some black, blue, grey, brown handbags or a fannypack, apart from whatever else you wear. Pick and choose from all of these.
Now depending on where you are heading to, change just one or two elements of the outfit you are in. If you are wearing a sari, change the drape, swap the traditional matching blouse with a tee or a top in contrasting colour with dramatic sleeves (if your boring closet has it) or just any top will do. Ensure that the fabrics gel well. Add an elaborate neckpiece depending on the collar style, print and embellishments, a matching or contrasting potli, loads of bangles — again on how long or short the sleeve is.
You can never go wrong in a white shirt and blue denims. YouTube is full of DIY stole drapes, pick and choose, accessorise right and the transition for a post-work get together will be almost seamless.
