Layering is key to moving from a mellow sun to a chilly evening.

Warm by day and chilly evenings, and once in a few days when the clouds play mischief, time it is to get snug in layers. Here are a few tips on how to be on trend this festive winter.

Layer up: Unbeknown to many, but a linen undershirt can work as a cool layering garment. Layering is key to moving from a mellow sun to a chilly evening. Get out of your chunky sweatshirt or fuzzy sweater and hang around in a full sleeves collarless tee till you feel the nip or sting. Contrast or colour block your wears, go monochrome and if you wish to play it safe, pair with neutrals like black, white, grey and brown. Don’t forget to accessorise right with a muffler, beret, slouchy beanie or pom headwear, gloves and the right socks.

Key pieces: Military, biker or bomber jackets, trench coats, jumpsuits, parkas, capes, shrugs, oversized sweaters and this season’s go-to fashion trend kaftan — all of them (that’s overdoing it!) or just a couple of these are great pieces to covet.

Kaftan magic: Says who you can’t rock the kaftan on a shivery evening? The trick is to layer it discreetly with a vest or over a fitted cowl or scoop neck knit, and if it gets too cold, wear a coat. Don warm leggings or skinny jeans and boots, and you are ready to sizzle.

Man to woman! Incorporate masculine elements to accentuate your femininity and make your own individual statement. Borrow from your man, be it your pa, bro, hubby or friend, but ensure it fits you well. Go for their shirts, sweaters, long cardigans, jackets and cinch some with an oversized belt or a contrasting slim tie knotted lower down the waist.

Mindful fashion: Last but not the least, don’t forget to check the hangtags, remember to ask the shop floor guy or girl as many questions on where the fabric has been sourced from, who has stitched that particular piece of clothing, does the factory that makes those clothes pay fair wages to its labour, is what you are buying planet-friendly?

And yeah, don’t forget to send me your questions. Anything and everything on fashion!
