As the sun beats down and humidity levels cause us to sweat more sans steam, stepping out is not easy and staying cooped indoors with the air-conditioner at full blast more harmful than good.
Loose silhouettes in airy fabrics and soft pastels or simply whites make the weather more tolerable but what also needs to be right is the footwear. Be it heels or flats, bellies, platforms or stilettos, the strappy Grecian sandal or slippers… there’s a lot to pick and choose from. But, it is important to go for the right stuff or continue to wither in the raw heat.
Avoid footwear made of artificial leather called PU or polyurethane, leatherette or so-called vegan leather. Footwear made of these materials will not only make you feel hotter but will also make your feet sweat. If you are walking or on a two-wheeler, the heat will almost be singeing your toes. So watch out!
Go for genuine leather which though not entirely breathable makes wearing easier if the design has perforations, slit sides, open toes, strappy or more feet than leather. If it is shoes you must wear, ensure you sport ankle or invisible socks, or even the quarter if your outfit deigns it so. The material must be cotton with some stretch to add to the comfort.
There are a lot of options in fabric uppers for all kinds of footwear. Don’t opt for the tightly closed ones, unless of course you have bones that feel good being held together!
And last but not least, the size of the heel matters. As more and more celebrities ditch the skyscrapers for flats including sneakers, they sure are a far more fetching option. However, our Indian wears like the sari or the kurta-palazzo/ leggings invariably look better with some heels. Kitten heels are just right with the palazzo or leggings. Platforms go well with the six-yard and if you are still not sung as a bug in them, a good idea is to carry a pair of malleable jooties or bellies in the bag. Party, meeting or evening done, ease out of the towers and prance around lightfooted.
