What new have you bought and what old will you re-purpose?

If the festive season is on, can parties be far behind? What new have you bought and what old will you re-purpose?

Let's talk re-purpose first. A soft coloured sari and a contrasting, bright dupatta? Silk on silk will be the way to go. You could also try organza, metallic, banarsi, or even the heavy kanjivaram.

On nude capris or underdress shorts, take the centre of the saree across your waist, from the back, and tie a knot right just on your navel. Now take one side under your leg, bring it to the front, pleat and tuck. Similarly draping the other side, pleat and tuck, on the other side. Pair this with a kurta, kurti or anarkali short top in the same tone, and let a contrasting colour dupatta hang on your right shoulder. You could also let it fall around your neck. Voila! You have styled a dhoti set, re-purposed a dupatta, a saree and a top wear, and of course an all-new look, not just for yourself but also your clothes!

Don’t forget to accessorise right. Metal or silver ringlets around the ankles, jooties, a wristful of glass bangles, a long, single-strand necklace, and ear cuffs that do not overpower. Go rock the evening!

Another repurpose idea — reuse dupattas which are still new into any kinda top wear or skirt. Take two and make a coordinated set — a jacket and skirt

Now for something new. What have you shopped? If you haven't yet, invest in handwoven silks or rich cottons.

Peach fuzz may be what trendcasters suggest as the colour for this year, but doesn’t quite suit our Indian skin type. Pair it with something bright to load the charm.

Don’t pile on the face paint. Play with colours again. If the eyes are smoky, keep the lipper light, a soft blusher, huge or small bindis — depending on your face type. Keep the style easy and breezy so that you can dash around here and there at ease.

Here’s to parties aplenty that you rock!
