The skies aren’t done pouring yet and the festal feel’s all around us. Sawan or the season of Shravan has commenced a week or two earlier, people are at their fasting best, the markets abuzz with glittering rakhis and stores raining discounts, although it is as of now the annual monsoon meltdown.
Do you fall prey to marketing tactics that promise freebies with every purchase or two? What about the online seducers that pop up on every page you browse, any game you play or simply reels that ‘influence’ you to upgrade your sense of worth, or add some bohemian chic to your style quotient?
But, what does your closet tell you? Need more or re-fashion, re-work, re-coordinate, re-style what’s within?
What does your mind tell you? More importantly, what says that beat of the heart?
A tough call yes, to think different, to ignore all that rolls and bombards all around. Does peer pressure insinuate your thought process and action? Millennials and Gen Z, and this is strictly my observation, is rather prone to conform to fit in, and this segment of the population is today on the wrong side of 35!
We will talk more on the psychological stress that fashion can cause some time later, but as you find yourself betwixt rain, sunshine and festive vibes, know that mocha and all shades coffee is the colour this year. But when did we begin following such trends? Vivacious reds, greens and yellows are the dominant shades followed by Krishna-blues, ivory, and orange — well almost the entire VIBGYOR range is what we dig.
So spread out your wears or linger a moment or two on the closet, team that raw silk kurta in contrasting or similar hues with a rich Banarsi or Paithani, add on that rich dupatta or the xador of the mekhela in half-saree drape on a pair of skinny denims and organza shirt or blouse, that silver-bordered linen saree draped like a dhoti and cinched at the waist with an extra broad or slim belt. Ideas there are aplenty. All you need to do is reinvent your closet!
