Colour Me How!

Colour Me How!
If there is any colour that makes you feel is not suiting you, banish that thought, not the shade! Ehimetalor Akhere Unuabona / Unsplah

Each hue, tint, shade has its own beauty, and also the power to evoke emotions.

What’s in a colour? Everything! As a kid I was conditioned to believe that black is a strict no-no since I have our typical wheat-brown skin colour. Till one day well into my college days I chanced on a black khadi kurta and the mirror told me a different story. Today when I enter a shop, I may tell them not to show me any charcoal hues, but I invariably walk out with yet another sooty garb to be added to my closet. This seasoning of the mind is what fashion does not accept.

What it does impact is the mind and its moods! Just as each hue, tint, shade has its own beauty, it also has the power to evoke emotions. An all-white outfit on a hot, scorching day soothes the eyes. A deep red rose or a blush-blush dress evokes romance and passion, yellow is all sunshine and mirth, blue relaxes, and black is all powerful. What is important to understand is that there is no colour that will not look good on any skin type if worn well.

If there is any colour that makes you feel is not suiting you, banish that thought, not the shade! The best way to accept even those tones that you feel are not in sync with your personality type, incorporate it slow in bits and pieces — a clutch, the shoes, just a belt, or a bag. Or, use it in contrast or as a colour-block as a stole or shawl or shrug. Go monochromatic in your favourite hues and hey, you’ll be ready to slay a style!
