It’s the time for resolutions. What are your plans? Let me suggest some which will help you be a much-needed drop in the ocean to check that wild careen into 2030. Why 2030? What will be so special about 2030? End of a decade? Well, yes, but not entirely that, and more on it a bit later.
Will it be much of an ask if we resolve to cut down our fashion purchase to just 4 items in 2025? It could be anything — a dress, sari, shirt, footwear, bag or any other fashion accessory. Why 4? Simply because this number more or less accounts for major events in one person’s life. Think back to kidhood days of yore, when a new dress was received on some special occasions and not at all like the random, impulsive, online buys of today.
Just for your information there is a trend, albeit slow, where people are reducing their fashion spends, repeating, recycling, repairing all that already exists in the closet. And if at all a purchase is it be made, indulging in retail therapy only for versatile pieces that can be made to work harder and definitely trendier. The upside to this is that it will help you carve out your own individual fashion identity.
A tip here would be to go for colours like red, blue, black, white and yellow. Think mix, match and contrast.
What could be more challenging is a “no-buy” year. For now, just a line on this and maybe you can mull over it and brave it out starting with a couple of months.
Apart from giving you an individualistic fashion streak, do you know this could also help you emerge as a ‘fashion influencer’. Peer influence, according to research, can drive people around you follow the sustainability steps that you incorporate in your style.
And in conclusion why 2030 is critical. Simply put, by 2030, just five years away, we need to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, and emissions need to be cut by almost half. The world must transform its energy, industry, transport, food, agriculture and forestry systems to ensure that we limit global temperature rise to well below 2°C, maybe even 1.5°C. Else, grit and bear the abominable heat, devastating floods, battering storms and let’s wait and watch how the winter unfolds this year.
