Pelting rain some days, canicular heat the other, the weather is all hues! And the in-between oppressive clagginess makes many feel unfit. Clothes feel sticky, the make-up runs, beards feel itchy, hands and feet clammy. It can’t be all that bad! Work needs to be done, and in spite of all the trappings to beat the heat and rain, the step out of the home or office is often inescapable.
And when the air is all steamy and stifling, wearing the right fabrics can make all the difference. Man, woman or child, opt for airy, easy-to-dry wearables that promise to not hold the sweat. Go for light cotton, linen, kota doria, chiffon, chambray and other natural fabrics. Look out for brands that weave in performance like moisture-wicking, no-stain, dry-fit, wrinkle-free. Layer light. A performance wear clothing within, paired with a loose shirt or dress will make all the difference.
Be mindful of the colours you pick. The regular blacks and browns could add to the blues so opt for brights. Whites can be a bit tough when it’s pouring, especially if you are dashing from the bus or the car to the sanctuary you need to step into, yellows, oranges, reds, electric blue, and all shades neon could be a better idea!
The raincoats seem to have gone all grey, blue and black! Pick bright ones, look for those Red Riding Hood cape-styles that have pockets to stick the hands out when needed. I remember those from my childhood. And nary a drop dared in. If you don’t get, ask. Build the demand and someone somewhere will start supplying later than sooner perhaps.
Hop into jelly shoes, water-proof sneakers, skid-free flipflops, sliders and clogs, hiking boots, rubber boots — there’s a lot out there. Steer clear of leather as it absorbs water and could ruin your bag or footwear.
Pat dry the make-up, not too much. Ensure the kohl is water-proof if you don’t need racoon eyes. A light lipper and you are ready to dance in the rain!
