If ever there was proof that power packing is a survival skill, it’s this footloose work trip. As I hop from one city to the next town with just a tote and two-wheeler capacious backpack (not available anymore and the brand knows not that if it is upgraded with just another set of 360-degree wheels, it could beat just about all in the market!), I also realise that retail indulgence should be steered clear of! But we women cannot be shopping-proofed, so all ye happy trippers, before you kit out, it just might be a good idea to layer the bottom of the backpack with the sturdiest yet finest collapsible carry-all!
There are many ways to pack smart. Google and thou shalt learn of 1-3, 3-3-3, 5-4-3-2-1, and so many more. Practically speaking what works best is a pair of denims, 2 pairs of cargoes in light crush-free material — the button-up pockets come in handy for a slim power bank, charging cord, chewing gum, small munchies, and they don’t weigh you down.
When it comes to topwear, ditch the formal shirt. Roll in 4-5 easy-wash-dry t-shirts and vests in solids, a denim shirt or a reversible breezy summer jacket to layer up, a dressy dress or kurti, 2 long baggy tees, 4 sets of innerwear. You need to accessorise too. A pair of studs, some chunky rings, a pair or two of danglers and a versatile neckpiece with half an armful of bracelets, bangles ¬ — if you are into them. Else, a simple watch will do – that too if you are the ‘watch’ kinds. Not a smart time to live in, when there are choices so many that making a choice gets tough!
No place to go if you don’t wear your most versatile and comfortable pair of sneakers or slip-ons. Pack in a pair of bathroom slippers too. And hey, you are ready to get going on your peregrinations!
PS: The market demands a wheely laptop bag that weighs not more than 2 kg! A minimum of 5 kg is a must to carry all of the above if one has to meet the flying norms for cabin baggage. Instead, what one gets is nothing less than 3-3.5! How does one carry the basic minimum?
Any more demands? Ideas some more on how to travel light? Write in! I look forward to your feedback.
