Styling our very own
The cardigan or long coat with a sari or kurta-churidar? Yes. But try tweaking the drape. Shanti Banaras

Experiment is the wasy to go if you wish to style our very own wears when winter comes a’ calling.

There is an elegant dignity about our very own Indian wears. The six-yard drape, the kurta-trousers-churidar-leggings set, the sharara or lehenga, the kurti as a tunic, angarkha or short top, we all have ‘em aplenty in our closets. A question that I was asked recently was how to style our very own wears when winter comes a’ calling. Experiment!

The cardigan or long coat with a sari or kurta-churidar? Yes. But try tweaking the drape on a boatneck fitted woollen croptop. Take the long pleated pallu over the left shoulder, around the nape and let it fall down to your right just below the knees. Decide on the length based on your height and girth. If it is a loose croptop, wrap the pallu once more around the pleats, and loop it around the neck. A tip: hunt for fitted, cropped full-sleeve tees in matching or contrasting colours.

A long coat a la a trench works well with the kurta-trousers-churidar-leggings set. If the length of the coat is a tad higher than the kurta, about a palm’s width, it makes all the difference to your look.

For dressier options like the sharara or lehenga, let the woollies be! But if you must, look for the micro thin skin-sins in skin colour and chop to the required length! Believe me you, these micros are a good investment as they can take you everywhere snug and yet in style. Tip: Look up some international brands. And they ship too!
